I can honestly say the last 90 days have been eye-opening and possibly life-changing. My perspectives on food, eating, weight, and health changed in these last three months. Also, I look at my body differently with a healthier mindset. And, most significantly, my life no longer revolves around food: my next meal; cravings; new recipes; hunger; boredom; whatever it may be.
90 Days of Non-Scale Victories
As I mentioned back in August, non-scale victories indicate much of our weight loss and personal development success. The number on the scale matters far less than the health and well-being we experience in our daily lives.
Clothing Fits Better
Is there a better feeling than going through your drawers finding an outfit that never fit before that now is baggy on you? For my entire adult life before carnivore, my weight and size fluctuated often up and down even with no changes in diet or activity. Now, I find myself wearing clothes that hadn’t fit in years. Just this past weekend, I wore my Bridgewater State College shirt (pictured below), a University since 2010, which I bought before my graduation over a decade ago.
Increased Physical Abilities
Since starting carnivore, bodyweight exercises continually get easier. My husband and I now make it a regular habit to visit local calisthenics parks (click the link for photos). Initially, we did not expect to have the physical ability to perform the exercises, but our meat diet furnished us with strong muscles.
Overall, I feel healthier with less pain and inflammation. I can move more efficiently with greater balance and flexibility. Breathing improved. I experience deeper sleep and a more refreshed feeling in the morning. I have consistent energy throughout the day, and post-workout soreness is minimal.
With all of those significant improvements, I have one non-scale victory that pleases me more than the rest. My neck and posture greatly improved, which I attribute primarily to this diet. My efforts with stretching and bodyweight exercises only became possible when I reduced the inflammation in my body. For me, this diet did the trick. As you can see below, my neck tilted forward quite a bit just 90 days ago. Now, I stand taller with neck and back aligned. I never expected this much improvement in such a short period.
More Clarity and Creativity
I am not sure if it is the added free time or mental clarity that does it, but meat clears my headspace. Since meat makes up every meal, I don’t spend time wondering what I will be eating. Also, I don’t find a need to one-up my last meal with something even tastier.
When I write or work on art, I can concentrate for much longer than before. In seeking new ways to stimulate my creative juices, I started painting with acrylics. However, I do plan to move to oil paints once I get a better hang on the processes.
My husband now mostly follows the carnivore way of eating. Once per week, he treats himself to one other food item. I remind him that this action only extends any suffering associated with this way of eating, but each person must make their own choices. Either way, his measurements improve consistently and he earns his treat.
