Humbled Through Learning Pursuits

Spread the love
Approx. Reading Time: 3 minutes

Recently, my family purchased a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) router, as we enjoy crafting quite a bit. Even though I’ve never used a machine like this, I understood that there would be a substantial learning curve. I ran my first project about a week ago (featured image), and it came out great. Since then, the machine has humbled me.

Humbled by a Machine

CNC routers, the necessary accessories, and programs to create projects quickly become a considerable investment. So, when we picked our machine, we decided on a modestly priced unit from a small business out of Missouri that required complete assembly. At the time, we felt that we should learn on something affordable then upgrade to a better capacity machine if we found it useful.

I must say, I love creating the designs and working with the machine.

Each day, I wake up eager to try something new. And, each day, this machine finds new ways to teach me a lesson or several. Daily, I am humbled by this machine.

When I think I finally have it right, it reminds me that I have a long way to go. After all, this is not a complaint, but a show of gratitude for the learning process. Some runs come out perfect, while others throw me for a loop.

Wins and Fails

In life, you win some…

… And you lose some.

Building on what I know

Admittedly, I feel that everything I learned over the past few years is coming together. My efforts in graphic design and art translate well to creating projects to cut from wood. Similarly, my development work has granted me the patience and calmness needed to deal with complications as they arise.

Also, I found greater focus and ability to enter a state of deep work. I easily ignore distractions, and I stopped procrastinating on my daily chores and tasks, allowing me more time to focus on working with the CNC router.
