Throughout life, we look for different things at different times. Each experience unique regardless of proximity. For any event, the number of observers dictates the number of possible perspectives.
What We Look For
We don’t all look for the same things. As a result, we do not see things the same way.
If you look only to find the flaw, you will undoubtedly find it. In the meantime, you missed any positive value that existed. When getting frustrated, could we not just ask for clarity from the other person? If you genuinely believe an average person means to harm you in conversation, you will perceive it that way no matter how it is intended.
On the other hand, if you look only to find the good you may miss some dangers. But, there is a middle ground between this order and chaos. You can’t fight hate with hate, the opposing force is love.
We Choose What We Look For
People who focus on negativity will always see negativity even when it isn’t there. Those who focus on hate will always see hate even when it isn’t there.
Meanwhile, people who focus on positivity will always see positivity even when it isn’t there. And, the ones who focus on love will always see love even when it isn’t there.
The truth is… We only see what we look for.
You decide what things mean to you. A mistake frustrates some to where they point blame away, but for other that same mistake acts as a lesson to learn. For some, failure means give up, while others see it as an opportunity to try something new. It’s a choice, make the right one.
