In recent years, an outrage mob bloomed into existence. Here in America, things were going too well. So, a group of misfit keyboard warriors rose up to speak out against all matters they deem offensive. As a result, celebrities, politicians, and regular people alike cower in fear — all catering to the ever-changing demands of these fools.
Fear Interferes
When beginning to publish content online, you become susceptible to the fear-mongering of the outrage mob and their victims. You either follow their demands and create boring content. Or, go against the grain which provokes their attention and attacks risking your entire operation.
Big tech companies seemingly back the outrage mobs bidding – labeling and un-personing those speaking their truth. Then again, possibly, these companies created the phenomenon through subconscious programming.
Fear Held Me Back
For the first 100 posts on Dirty Windshield, I limited the whats and hows of my writing – unintentional people pleasing to those who can’t be pleased.
I feared controversial and provocative writing despite knowing those characteristics generate interest. Oddly, I openly express my strong viewpoints in real life, but online I held back. Doubting myself, I wrote soft, non-offensive thoughts and held my most exceptional words back from my audience. For this reason, I apologize; my audience is worthy of better.
Without delay, I promise to speak my truth without fear of the outrage mob. The truth is these folks don’t like me, anyway. Their ever-moving bar of obedience works to give them control they do not deserve. Thus, I must usurp the power back for myself.
Speaking Out
The only time we are guaranteed is the moment we are in now. When we don’t say what we want or need to say, we risk losing that opportunity forever.
Of course, fear applies to much more than posting online content. In fact, we deal with most of our fears and anxieties throughout daily life.
For example, fear of failure stops most people from trying. Whether it be starting a business, making a significant move, submitting a proposal, or anything, we let doubt stop us from moving forward — this way of thinking harms far more than it helps.
In our mind, we create a hurdle and a belief manifesting it into existence. However, when we face our fears, we often find out that the bad outcome rarely, if ever, happens.
Face Your Fear
Fear impacts our lives. It limits our progress and sometimes stops us dead in our tracks. Whether in real life or online, have you allowed fear to prevent you from moving forward? Or, better yet, did you hold a deep fear and decide to take active steps to overcome it.
