I decided to participate in Inktober 2019 after seeing so many great works on social media over the past few years. Overall, I enjoyed this endeavor, and as it ends, I want to recognize some of my takeaways.
Anyone can participate in this yearly event with as few tools as some paper and a pen or marker. For me, I used one of my large sketchbooks, a pencil, an eraser, and three different markers depending on the drawing. I shared everything I used in the featured image above.
Why I Participated in Inktober 2019
Using the Inktober 2019 list from the official Inktober.com site, I created 31 original drawings. In the past, I typically worked with pencil and paper then shifted to computer-based software. In other words, inking is not something I ever practiced or utilized. The truth is that I feared that I would ruin my drawings with a misplaced ink line.
What I Learned
By following this daily practice for 31 days, I recognized it as a great exercise in consistency, creativity, and confidence-building. Of course, doing anything for 31 days in a row shows consistency. While following a set of single-word prompts requires creativity. And, sharing the results regardless of how I felt about them built my confidence.
Each day, I hoped to bring something a bit different to the table. Wherever possible, I sought to use the less common meanings of the prompt words or add my spin on them. On average, I spent 30 minutes working on each of these drawings between pencil and inking.
Inktober 2019 Drawings
In case you missed my social media feeds with each of my Inktober 2019 ink drawings, I compiled all 31 below. I had a blast with this mini project and look forward to next year!
