In March, winter flows into spring. The birds begin to chirp; the flowers start to bloom; new life emerges. Each of these things happens naturally unchanged by the doings of others.
The world around us happens so effortlessly. Why is that we put so much effort into affecting change in our own lives?
March away from Expectations
Throughout our lives, we come in contact with so many people, places, and things. Often, we set up expectations for people, events, and more. Those expectations set us up for disappointment as we hold little power to control the outcomes of anything, including ourselves.
Expectations create fear. Expectations impose self-limiting beliefs. And expectations throw our sense of reality off course.
Do any of these creations that result from expectations sound positive? Useful? Joy inducing?
Setting expectations adds no real value and takes away from our presence in the moment. If the outcome does not matter, our experience becomes more fulfilling.
This March go with the flow
As the ice thaws this March, the water begins to flow again. Water is gentle, yet powerful enough to carve rocks. As humans, we can take a water-like approach to ourselves.
We can:
- Eliminate expectations when dealing with others
- Believe in ourselves and our ability to do what is right naturally
- Stop worrying about other’s opinions and approvals of us giving concern only to being in harmony with ourselves
- Not take ourselves too seriously
- Do things and take chances without fear
- Accept what we cannot change
- Make mistakes
- Express ourselves
- Grieve or feel negative emotions
- Forgive and let go – Forgiveness is for ourselves, not the other person
- Know when to act and when not to act
In other words, we can live life effortlessly. We can go with the flow and enjoy the journey.
