Now that I am back in the gym, I’ve recognized a new me. I found a different motivation, approach to nutrition, and style of training. And, I know that I will fine-tune these aspects throughout my journey.
The Old Me
A few years back, I lifted heavy weights and felt unstoppable in the gym. Despite hours per session six days per week, I struggled with losing weight. My trainers, including males, felt challenged to beat some of my bigger lifts, like my 800 plus pound leg presses. At the time, I knew something felt wrong in my body
Over the years, I followed a variety of diets that came with temporary success and often bouts of cheat meals. I drank alcohol somewhat frequently, loved pizza, or nachos for cheat meals, but usually, I managed to follow a paleo diet. On paleo, I needed to eat nearly constantly, but dropped weight pretty well for a long time.
Over the years, I tried plans with meal replacement shakes, calorie restriction, low fat. You name it; I attempted it. With each change, I saw the scale move down then eventually back up. Typically, the upward movement outnumbered the losses. I found this endlessly frustrating. For the most part, I felt like crap and was always starving.
My body hurt, especially my back. Nearly six years ago now, I began seeing a chiropractor regularly. At first, I went three to five times per week; that lasted for over a year. In many ways, I felt instantly improved from my sessions, while in other ways I suffered painfully as my body needed to re-learn proper posture. In the gym, I no longer felt strong and eventually quit showing up.
A New Me Starting Over
When I began carnivore last year, I took my first step in becoming a new me. I followed the plan religiously and lost 80 pounds in my first six months. When my progressed halted, I loosened up on my meals and started to fall into
Here I am over nine months later, regaining focus and taking my life back into my own hands. Finding a new me once again.
My workouts now feel so different from before. With much lighter weights, I feel the burn of each repetition. Because of this, I experience a greater mind-body connection. I wake up with muscle soreness again, ready to train my next muscle group.
I’m looking forward to making progress at any rate. With each new day, I grow more positive and enthusiastic about this journey. Now I know, I’ve genuinely found a new me.
My Promise to the New Me
I decided this new me needs to take one day at a time. If I make a mistake, I learn and move forward. Each meal, I choose to fuel myself with foods that make me feel optimal. Commonly, this consists of beef or bacon with some eggs, butter, or cheese. Every workout, I focus on rebuilding my strength while increasing my endurance and fitness.
This new me is not as powerful as I once was, but this new me will eventually make the old me look like a fool.
